Who are the people associated with this project?

I am Soumyadeb Mitra, founder & CEO of Rudder Labs. The company has been funded by Shvetank Jain from S28 Capital. As of now, we have a team of 10 developers working on creating Rudder.

How is Rudder different from Segment.com?

Rudder is focussed on security and privacy.  Our motto is that you should be able to collect and store your customer data without sending everything to a 3rd party vendor or embedding proprietary SDKs. With Rudder, the event data is always in your control. Besides, you get fine-grained control over which data to forward to which analytical tool.

Why should I care about open-source & on-prem?

If you don’t want to host your customer data in a 3rd party solution, then you should care about open-source and on-prem.

Is your open-source code maintained and stable?

Yes, we actively contribute to our open source code as you can see on our GitHub page. The core data processing layer is the same for both the Community and Enterprise edition. The Enterprise edition comes with some more advanced reporting & clustering features but those are built on top of the data plane.

What support is available with the Community plan and Enterprise plan?

If you are on the free Community plan, we have a reasonably manned Discord channel where you can ask questions https://discordapp.com/invite/xNEdEGw

If you are on the Enterprise plan, you will have a dedicated account manager (initially a senior member of the management team).

Can I sign a longer-term (more than 1 year) contract with the discount?

Right now we are offering the discount only for 1 year contracts.

Is this some kind of a nights & weekend project?

No, we are a real company. We are a team of 10 engineers, have raised money from well known Silicon Valley VCs and are in this for the long haul.
